The Cats of Tanglewood Forest edition by Charles de Lint Charles Vess Children eBooks Reviews

An enchantingly modern fairy tale by a marvelous lore master, The Cats of Tanglewood Forest is a reading delight. This story has flowing action, enough spookiness to thrill any reader or listener, and a series of thoughtful lessons. In addition, the colored illustrations by Charles Vess compliment the story perfectly. For those who enjoy the nature of animals, in particular cats, this book is a must read!
I don't know where to begin...I'm beyond a clearly objective review as I love both Charles de Lint AND Charles Vess. The story is cute, but mythic on both a young adult as well as older level. Vess's full color artwork throughout the book is astounding. I have recommended it to our YA librarian and several friends.
This is a charming story prrrfect for younger readers, but well suited for readers of any age who love their words mixed with just the right bit of magic. He may startle, puzzle, or astound, but Mr. de Lint never disappoints!
This will be a gift for my two granddaughters who still like to see pictures in a book. The illustrations are amazing. I enjoyed the book so much that I didn't want to put it down. The youngest won't be able to read the book by herself but I believe her parents will enjoy reading along with both them. I wanted a book that caught their interest with an adventure appropriate for a young reader and could still be enjoyed by all. I also wanted a book that promotes strong female characters. I feel that this is a book they will keep as they grow up. I found this book by accident and
already have my eye on the next Charles de Lint book. I have used the feedback of other readers for recommended age groups as not all his books sound like they are for children.
This is the expanded version of "A Circle of Cats," and expands on the original in wonderful ways! The author added some 40,000 words to the story, and the artist added some 50 paintings, so it is altogether more of a very wonderful story! I purchased "A Circle of Cats" to share with my grandkids, and now I'll be buying a paper copy of "The Cats of Tanglewood Forest" to share as well! (I purchased the version today and finished it this evening - a very fun read!)
I bought this book because I like some of the author's other books. I was interested in a book that was no longer in print "Circle of Cats", then I found out that he was coming out with this remake expanded version of that story so I got this instead. It was a good read all the way through. Great book for cat lovers everywhere. It is written sort of like it would be for children or young adults, but it deals with some serious emotional issues such as loss of a loved one. Its a good read even for adults.
Several years ago, Charles de Lint wrote, and Charles Vess illustrated "A Circle of Cats." This expanded version came out in 2013. Unfortunately, it was released just after de Lint appeared at FaerieCon West in Seattle, but I was able to get it autographed by both him and Charles Vess at FaerieCon West in 2014.

The book tells the story of Lillian, a young girl who likes to roam in the forest. One day, she's bitten by a snake. The cats save her by turning her into a kitten. Then it's up to Lillian to make a journey to find the Possum Woman to get turned back to a human girl. Charles de Lint's writing is as engaging as ever, and Charles Vess' illustrations complement the text perfectly.

You'll also want to read the sequel, "Seven Wild Sisters," also by de Lint and illustrated by Vess. The sequel, fortunately, was released just before FaerieCon West, so I was able to get both books signed by both Charleses.

While both books are available for the , I highly recommend getting the old-fashioned hardcover editions. I love ebooks, but these books were made for paper. Besides, if you should happen to run into either or both Charleses, how can they sign an ebook?
