Many families are dysfunctional. Jewell was unfortunately born to a woman who totally undervalued her, so much that she was raised by her grandmother, Mimi, while her mother pursed other interests.
The blessing to Jewell was that her beloved Mimi was a treasure and loved her with her entire soul. Jewell achieved so much with Mimi’s support.
Now the tables have turned and since Mimi developed dementia, Jewell is the caregiver in return for all the love she received. I especially loved the parts of the story showing what was going on in Mimi’s mind. Her thoughts of her memories, of losing her memories, her concern for what will happen to Jewell. It seems so realistic and heartbreaking to me.
Beau had a less than ideal childhood also, living with an alcoholic father and a non-acting mother. He also was saved from that situation, by a loving family he accepted as his own.
Years later, as adults, Jewell and Beau have personalities formed from their childhoods. They are very protective of those that they love and will do anything I their ability to keep them safe.
At first glance, it would seem these two are a perfect pair, but they meet with baggage that has to be resolved before they can trust each other.
As the course of the story progresses, this of course happens. This is a romance book, so yes, it has a happy ending, as we wish all people would have in “real life”.
This is the second book in the Second Chance Series. I do not think it is necessary to read the first book, Elli, to enjoy or understand this book, but I would advise you to read it, since I thought it was great.
Tina DeSalvo does an amazing job of character and plot development and I feel like I know each of the people I met in this book and struggled along with them. I adore Jewell’s grandmother Mimi. I love to read books with a person of the older generation. I feel that they teach so much to others by just living life with grace, wisdom and spunk.
The Cajun setting is so special and I was welcomed back to the area in this book, which I fell in love with in the first book in this series.
I totally enjoyed this story and am excited to continue the series and spend more time in Cane, Louisiana.

That kind of story that pulls you in and doesn't let you go. You end each chapter eager to start the next and are sorry when the last chapter ends. I love the Louisiana Cajun connections. They show the true spirit of all of us Cajuns...family comes first.
Once again Tina DeSalvo hits the nail on the head. Both Jewell and Beau take protecting their families to the next level. Alzheimer's is an ugly disease, but Tina DeSalvo handled it beautifully.
Enjoyable book, it had a good story line.
Great series. I like that Tina creates new characters but still let's you know about the other ones.
Love how Tina DeSalvo puts cajun french & ways into her books. Another awesome book.
