Silencing Eve Iris Johansen Books
Three books to tell one story? Disgraceful.Book 1, Taking Eve plot line: Eve is kidnapped by a psychopath to reconstruct the skull of his psychotic son. ...could have been presented in 100 pages or less.
Book 2, Hunting Eve plot line: Family and friends search for Eve who is presumed dead at the end of the "book". ...worth
100 pages tops.
Book 3, Silencing Eve. While this segment of the story finally has a more workable, in-depth plot line Johansen actually becomes too verbose. I found myself a little over half way through the book skimming quickly through page after page of unnecessary story line and dialogue, something I have never done before with an Iris Johansen novel.
While I found Silencing Eve to be the best of this prolonged saga I am still incredibly disappointed with Iris Johansen for selling what could have been one outstanding novel in the format of three books. Due to her greed and lack of consideration for her readers this will be the last Johansen novel I will ever purchase.
The one plus in this whole trilogy farce is revisiting all the beloved characters (whom Ms Johansen has so brilliantly written) we have come to know over the years of the Eve Duncan series.

Silencing Eve Iris Johansen Books Reviews
I love Eve Duncan stories. However, this trilogy was not an Eve Duncan story. While Eve was the object of the search, it seemed that the story was about the other characters and they were numerous. It seemed that Iris just threw in every character that has ever been in an Eve Duncan story and the story was more about them. I like Joe, Jane, Kendra, Caleb, Margaret, and all the rest but I prefer having Eve as the central character not the other supporting characters. Any forensic sculpture artist could have been substituted for Eve for these characters to find. Of course the emotional attachment would not be there. I must admit that I feel kind of cheated as this trilogy could have been just one book if you removed all of the padding and fluff and just concentrated on the story. I gave this 3 stars because it was a good story for the most part but it just wasn't an Eve Duncan story.
I'm really disappointed in Iris Johansen this time. I think I've read so many of the Eve Duncan books, that I grew accustomed to Eve's story and got bored. After all, how much can you write about one character without repeating the same thing about her? This trilogy could have fit into one book but the author drags it on into 3 books. On top of that, she killed off a character. Ughhh....she shouldn't have. On top of that I find Jane to be really annoying. The author tries to make her a strong and beautiful but I find the opposite to be true. I find her to be stubborn and sort of selfish. She keeps getting hurt and getting in people's way. Eve is missing and all she worries about is that SHE has to be the one looking for Eve. Uh...does it matter who looks for Eve, so long as she is found? I think it's time that Johansen retires the Eve Duncan series and create more refreshing characters without creating a new series. She does have a knack for incorporating political and scientific issues into her book. That I do like. But the bottom line is I really got bored and annoyed. And the killing of that one character really did it for me. So I started looking into other authors. One that I really like is Melinda Leigh. She creates really interesting stories without using the same character.
I loved every other book. They were well written end held my attention from beginning to end. This one? Not so much. I found myself bored with the filler and wished it would finally get to the end. I don't think that this book was even necessary, it could have been an extra couple chapters at the end of the previous one but I guess that doesn't raise the profits. The beginning and end were good, I love the budding relationship with Zander whom should have filled a bit more space, but the middle was a constant, 'No, that's my job', 'No, that's what I do' and so on. It was like every character was some type of a super hero and none of them could be anything but strong and tough. All of the characters could have had their moments of weakness or at least allowed someone to help them. Some of them were laughable, 'no, you go ahead, I must kill these people alone, it's my job and I could never accept help from a friend, even in a life or death situation', kind of talk. It was not believable at all. Then the I'm tough and don't need anyone on one page to suddenly 'I love you more than life and could never live without you' on the next page. No build up to her feeling that way.
I love strong characters but this really was over the top! Every single one of the close to 15 characters had to be a single minded, I do it my way, I am too strong to accept help from others, it's MY job to do this, type A to the extreme type of person. What happened to real friendships where people let others help them and they do things together? I don't mind some things that are a bit out there and unrealistic but this was full of it. Lastly, there was so much just TALK that filled up most of the center of the book. It became so boring to hear the people repeat things that I started speed reading and almost scanning to get through to something interesting.
I am very disappointed! I really loved every other book up to this one but it felt as though she was repeating and adding things just as filler or because she was rushed into a too early publishing date. I hope the next is better and that some of this 'I'm always strong' crap goes away with everyone. You don't need to be a one-woman/man army to be a strong person who accepts help. I really want to see more of Zander trying and her letting him, I love his character! I'd rather wait years for a great book than to get a so-so book a few times per year! I may try to email this directly to her in hopes that she doesn't destroy the series.
