John Jakes is an excellent writer. Whether you read this as a stand alone book, or as one of the series, you Will enjoy the journey thru the book. Do yourself a favor and read it. Jakes does a wonderful job of showing the reader a touch of the past
The Warriors is number 6 in the Kent Family Chronicles and history of the West beginning to open up and the railroad trying to get from east to west coast and what all happened trying to get it there. John Jakes has a way with the way he lays out the history is a way it's not boring but brings it to life. I would recommend this series to anyone that enjoys a good read that you just can't put down.
Another good novel in the Kent Chronicles. Interesting and disturbing time in our history which comes alive in this book.
I've been reading this saga of the Kent Family Chronicles from book 1. Some book series start out good, but then become dull and uninteresting. This series, however, has been most enjoyable and interesting from the beginning. The historical aspect is great! I've learned many historical tidbits from Mr. Jakes fantastic research.
When the series of Kent books were published many years ago I read then and I enjoyed them very much. Reading the books again after nearly 35 years I've enjoyed them even more. Covering all the major stages of the growth of America experienced through the lives of one family is so fascinating. For lovers of historical fiction you'll enjoy John Jake's attention to details of all the important stages of the development of America. It's well researched and for the most part accuratee.
In this 6th installment of the Kent family history, the Civil War soon comes to a close, and we see that both sides of the conflict still try to wage their war with the other side and cannot sit back into being Americans, at least not just yet. Jephtha is barely mentioned, as is his cousin Louis, although their actions had much to do with the story. Most of the book was about Jephtha's sons and about Michael Boyle, who's dedication to the Kent family has resulted in him being seen as an 'adopted' Kent. It certainly makes you look forward to reading the next installment.
Like all of John Jakes historical novel, although fiction, it contain historical fact. This story holds the reader where the reader can't put the book aside easily. Great reading, JAKES paints a picture of an important era of American history.
